Astro Motion Technologies

Manufacturing gears with very close tolerances is extremely expensive. It is the main reason that high-end, accurate German equatorial mounts cost so much. What if you could pull the gears out of your less-costly mount and send them off to be blueprinted for less than you would pay for an eyepiece? Well you CAN! You can send Tom Hadoulias your gears and he'll refinish those gears using the most lubricous material currently known to science. This will not only reduce friction in your mount, but it will reduce periodic error by 50%.

Terms of Agreement

It is of primary concern that Astro Motion Technologies, (AMT) provide a service utilizing a proprietary process to improve the overall functionality and precision of the specialty astronomy mounts currently available to today’s amateur astronomer. While we strive to implement a level of workmanship that is backed by quality assurance through specialized manufacturing and precision measurement equipment, we must be completely honest regarding the expectations of individuals considering this modification. First of all, this is not a “fix” for a broken or worn mount. While we can at times obtain replacement parts and we can repair broken mounts, this is not the primary purpose of the WS2 process. Your mount should be in good working condition in order to receive the maximum benefits of the WS2 process. If you have a concern regarding your mounts condition, a good test is the ability of your mount to track for a reasonable time frame a celestial object following a proper polar alignment or computer position or GPS fix if so equipped. We cannot be responsible for mounts not meeting mechanical standards for reasons of wear, overloaded or stripped gears do to excessive payloads, corrosion or other anomalies that may be discovered during disassembly. We will however work with you to resolve any issues and obtain replacement parts before we proceed with the WS2 process.

It is further understood, that the WS2 process is a friction reduction process that has been shown to improve operational visual and astrophotography performance greatly. The improvements may vary from mount to mount due to varying manufacturing standards utilized during the time of initial construction by the manufacturer. By agreeing to the process, you acknowledge that AMT will utilize all available process methods and measurement equipment to maximize the performance potential of each individual mount but cannot guarantee any specified amount of improvement due to the above mentioned variables. AMT warrants that workmanship will be performed properly and that the mount functions to its proper specifications when received, unless otherwise noted. This warrantee applies to labor and WS2 materials only for a period of 30 days following the receipt of the modified mount. Overloading, improper use, sand, rain or any other improper use of the mount outside its specified capacity will result in voiding the warrantee and will be at the sole discretion of AMT. Performing this mod during your manufacturers warrantee period may void your warrantee.

Gears Only

Astro Motion Technologies is sorry to announce that the "Gears Only" option for the WS2 process will discontinued effective immediately. It seemed like a good deal at the time, but experience has taught them that the gears-only process ends up costing the company more in time and overhead than simply doing the job themselves. Many well-meaning, willing-to-tinker individuals tear their mounts apart only to find out that putting them back together is no easy task. Astro Motion Technologies then spent many hours talking them through the process and sending email correspondence back and forth than it would take to put the mount together themselves. Eliminating this service will lead to more happiness for all parties.
